Employee Focus – Paul Parnham

We recently spoke with Paul Parnham, Operations Manager for the London Metering team, to ask him about his career with Energise Energy Solutions.

How and when did you join EES?

I joined energise in November 2020, I became very stagnant in my old job and it very much turned into groundhog day, I wanted a new challenge with different prospects of where I could go in the business.

I heard about Energise, a local company to me, who were a fairly fresh new company on the scene, recruiting for dual fuel meter fitters. It was the perfect opportunity to come aboard and thrive in the challenges the industry holds in a fresh company with fresh ideas and directions.

Tell us a bit about your first role?

My first role with the business was as a Dual Fuel Meter Fitter, visiting customers off octopus energy who energise work very closely with. My job entailed visiting these customers homes to fit Smets 2 Electric and Gas meters to safe and tidy standard.

The role also involved giving them tailored energy efficiency advise to suit there needs and their budget, whilst demonstrating the In home display to them to be able to control there energy usage more easily. On some instances I would have give relevant safety advice for situations in their property. Customer service was always on top of the agenda.

How did you move on from this and progress in the company?

During 1-1’s with my manager, we discussed potential routes I could take, I was on the tools for a good year and half and during that time I saw the business grow and grow, I felt a need and a want to be a part of that. As team sizes were growing there was an opportunity to become a lead engineer in my team, which I took advantage of, after seeing fellow engineers do the same and progress through the business.

I worked closely with my manager to learn all the tip and tricks to become successful in management, eventually coming to a position where I could cover my manager when he went off on annual leave.

I progressed by starting to stand-in when other teams managers went off on annual leave, which gave me opportunity to show what I can do and offer the company. A Chance came up to take ownership of the London team full time which I gladly accepted.

What is your current role and how you are finding it?

My current job role is Operations Manager for the London team, I have a team size of 21 engineers who are all visiting customers to safely fit smart meters in customers homes, this includes travelling down to London from home to visit my engineers in the field.

This role has its challenges as London can be one of the most difficult regions to manage due to workload,work quality due to the age of customers installations and driving issues engineers have in London. I am enjoying this role and feel like im thriving as every day is different and is certainly a learning day everyday, this is also down to the support I have from the management team as we are a very close knit team who help each other when we can !!
